PRESS RELEASE: Museum seeks new team of Volunteer Gallery Guides

Posted on: 29th November 2017

Lyme Regis Museum is looking for enthusiastic people who love Lyme and its history, to help bring their newly refurbished galleries to life as Volunteer Gallery Guides.

Museum Director David Tucker said “We’re looking for a new team of Volunteer Gallery Guides to play the important role of unlocking the museum’s world-class collections for visitors from all over the world. Experience isn’t necessary, nor is any special or in-depth knowledge of the town or its geology as full training and support will be given. What really matters is enthusiasm, a passion for sharing Lyme’s fascinating history, and an enjoyment of talking to people from all walks of life. If this sounds like you, we would love to hear from you.”

Museum volunteer Mandy Selhurst added “I’ve been volunteering at the Museum now for several months.  I thoroughly enjoy my time there for various reasons.  Firstly, the subject matter is incredibly interesting.  I’m learning all the time.  I’ve met so many new people.  I’m helping to support the Museum itself, and the view from the window is superb!  I think it’s been a good decision on my part!”

Lyme Regis Museum is a registered charity and has a team of over 80 active volunteers who fulfil a range of roles in the museum. Volunteer Gallery Guides will be working directly with the public in the museum’s galleries during its busiest season between April and October, although working hours are flexible. This exciting new volunteer role will be supported by a full training and induction programme, which will take place in the new year.
