Lyme and the Sea; the Cobb
Bottles from the Heroine
Bottles from the Heroine, wrecked off Lyme in 1852 on her way to Australia.
HMS Snap
Lyme built ships as well as sailing them. HMS Snap, built in 1812, is the only one to have served in the Royal Navy.
The town's fortunes have been inextricably bound up with the sea. For seven centuries trade has flourished and faded through its port, protected by the great wall of the Cobb. Fishing, smuggling, storm and shipwreck have left their relics. For the past two hundred years the town has earned its living as a tourist resort.
