By Henry Thomas De la Beche 1796-1855 This print of Duria Antiquior from the famous watercolour painted by geologist Sir Henry Thomas De la Beche in 1830 depicts life in ancient Dorset based on fossils found by Mary Anning. Lithograph of this image were produced and sold to raise funds to ease her poverty. De la Beche was the first to portray a fossil invironment in its entirety and to show the interaction of fossil fauna and flora, and in particular the large marine reptiles of the early Jurassic period.
