NEWLY ADDED: Tolkien and Lyme Regis

Posted on: 28th June 2013

J. R.R. Tolkien (1892 – 1973), best known as the author of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, was a frequent visitor to Lyme Regis both as a child and as an adult. A new article by Margaret Batt and John Dover, “J. R. R. Tolkien and the Influence of Lyme Regis”, has been added to this website and can be found on the People and Places page. The article describes the many illustrations Tolkien produced in Lyme, including the one shown here of Lyme Regis Harbour (Bodleian Library: M.S. Tolkien Drawings 86, fol. 6.
