Lyme Regis Museum announces packed summer programme of activities for all the family
Lyme Regis Museum is delighted to announce an exciting summer programme of drop-in activities running throughout July and August, offering visitors of all ages the chance to get hands-on with the prehistoric world right in the heart of the Jurassic Coast.
From fossil polishing and printmaking to 3D sculpting, clay modelling and interactive Mary Anning sessions, the programme has been designed to inspire curiosity and creativity in visitors of all ages, making it the perfect summer day out for families visiting Lyme Regis.
Almost all sessions are free with museum admission and available as drop-in activities with no booking required. A small charge applies for the popular fossil polishing workshops, where participants can choose and polish their own fossil to take home as a unique souvenir of their visit.
Highlights of the programme include a series of 3D modelling sessions with artist Darell Wakelam, who will guide participants in creating their own prehistoric creatures including a Ferocious Fish, a Plesiosaur, a Dino-Jaws model and an Ammonite Graveyard scene. Creative Clay for All return with a series of clay modelling workshops exploring cephalopods, ichthyosaurs and Mary Anning, while printmaker Alison Bowskill will lead two printmaking workshops across the summer. Special interactive In the Footsteps of Mary Anning sessions will also take place on selected dates, inviting visitors to discover the remarkable story of Lyme Regis’s most famous fossil hunter in an engaging way.
Alongside the indoor programme, the Museum’s popular programme of guided walks will continue throughout the summer, with regular history walks, ghost walks and fossil walks taking place across the season. Led by expert guides, the walks offer a wonderful way to explore the town’s rich heritage, its mysterious past and the remarkable geological wonders of the Jurassic Coast – something for every curiosity and every age.
