Volunteering

Would you like to join our volunteer team?

We are looking for enthusiastic and committed people to join our friendly volunteering team at Lyme Regis Museum.

Our volunteers are at the heart of Lyme Regis Museum and are enthusiastic in engaging with our visitors and providing a polite and friendly service. You don’t have to be an expert in Geology or local history training and support will be given and you can learn more as you work with us but a keen interest in local and maritime history and geology would be useful.

Why Volunteer At The Museum?

Volunteering with us will give you the opportunity to:

  • Meet our visitors from all around the world
  • Make new friends & enjoy social events
  • Share and develop your skills & experience
  • Acquire new knowledge about Lyme & its history
  • Give support to a local organisation

What can you do?

Front of House:

Our Front of House volunteers are at the core of the Museum. You will greet our visitors, learn how to take payments, assist with our shop and answer any questions our visitors may have. You don’t need to be an expert on anything connected with the museum, staff are always available to help and if you want to learn more we will help you to develop your skills as you work with us. Volunteering with our Fossil Walks you will learn all about the history of the local environment and help our visitors to have a fun and engaging experience on the walks. No previous knowledge is needed, you just need to be interested, enthusiastic and enjoy communicating with others. Read more about being a Fossil Walk Assistant >

Gallery Guides:

This is a lovely role for anyone who has a keen interest in the local and maritime history of Lyme and Geology including our fossil collection and enjoys interacting with the public. This role will give you the chance to really immerse yourself in our collections and to be able to engage with our visitors and help them with any questions that they might have. Fossil Polishing Activity Days:

Every year we hold a number of Fossil Polishing Activity Days on the sea front in Lyme Regis. These are full on fun days that involve talking to the public and giving fossil polishing demonstrations and helping people to have a go at it themselves. If you enjoy talking to the public and would like to learn about fossil polishing yourself tis could be the ideal activity to volunteer with.
