Lyme Regis Museum Access Statement
Our access statement aims to give an honest appraisal of access within our museum.
Accessing the Museum
We are committed to always doing our best to help you access as much of the museum as possible. Please do contact us in advance or talk to us on arrival if you have any questions.
Part of Lyme Regis Museum is a Grade II listed building, which means that access is limited in some areas and we are unable to make certain structural alterations. We appreciate your understanding and assure you that we do everything within our power to make your visit as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.
There is level access at the entrance to the museum and throughout the ground floor. A lift provides wheelchair access to the first floor, where you will also find an accessible toilet. Despite recent improvements, we regret that some areas of the building remain inaccessible to visitors with limited mobility and the second-floor gallery and rotunda can only be accessed via a flight of stairs.
Please note that due to the nature of the building and the narrow spaces within it, mobility scooters are not permitted inside the museum.
Carers
Carers accompanying their ward receive free entry to the museum. Please speak to a member of staff on arrival.
Babies and Children
Families with babies and children are very welcome at Lyme Regis Museum. Baby change facilities are available in the accessible toilet on the first floor. You are welcome to leave pushchairs in the entrance foyer for the duration of your visit, although please be aware that any items are left at your own risk.
Assistance Dogs
Assistance animals and guide dogs are very welcome at Lyme Regis Museum and its premises. Non-assistance animals are not permitted.
Where possible, owners are encouraged to bring their dog’s Assistance Dogs (UK) identification book – or the appropriate international equivalent – and animals are encouraged to wear the appropriate tabard or harness. However, please note that neither of these is a requirement for entry.
If you have any questions about assistance animals prior to your visit, please contact our team in advance and we will be happy to help.
Alternatives to Fossil Walks for individuals, Schools and Groups
We are always happy to discuss your personal or group needs. We can offer alternative experiences to fossil walks, such as fossil handling sessions. Please contact us for more details.
