TO THE SEA – Maritime Museum Experience in Clay Workshop with Artist Ilse Black
Inspired by the Museum’s maritime collections and Lyme Regis’ enduring relationship with the sea, artist Ilse Black invites you to explore the relationship between viewer and object through the medium of clay. Inspired by the fascinating artefacts in Lyme Regis Museum’s Maritime Gallery, each with its own story of the sea, you will create a unique two-part sculpture – one piece representing you as the onlooker, the other representing a chosen object from the collection. Through scale, posture, texture and form, you will express what that object means to you and what it reveals about the museum experience itself.
No ceramic experience is necessary – just an open mind and a curiosity for the stories that objects hold. All materials are provided and your finished piece will be fired and ready to collect from the Museum or posted to you after the session.
This workshop is part of ‘To the Sea’, Lyme Regis Museum’s exciting new artist residency programme funded by Arts Council England.
