Press Release: Museum Re-opening

Posted on: 4th September 2020

It is wonderful to be re-opening Lyme Regis Museum on Tuesday 8 September and we are looking forward to hearing the happy buzz of visitors in the galleries again.

The days are still warm and long on the coast, ideal for a visit to this fascinating town with its amazing history and heritage. With a unique setting on the seawall and stunning views of the Jurassic Coast, Lyme Regis Museum captures the essence of this remarkable place.

From Ammonites to Ichthyosaurs we have the smallest and the biggest Jurassic Fossils on display. Revealing the amazing discoveries that led to the birth of Palaeontology and the brilliant life story of Mary Anning. We showcase the highs and lows of the town’s swashbuckling history and our new Writers Gallery tells the tales of those who have fallen in love with this place. At the top of our unique building, in the tiny white domed rotunda gallery, we have a colourful programme of contemporary art by local makers. There is always something special to discover here.

Make the most of your time with us and join one of our fossil hunts or special walks to really discover our truly spectacular countryside and coastline.

Entry price is just £5.95 for adults and £2.75 for children. When we re-open on the 8th September, entry times will be staggered and numbers will be limited, to create time and space for a relaxed and calm visit.

It is a really great season to visit Lyme Regis, with wonderful skies, warm days and fewer crowds. We look forward to seeing you soon!
